Hi, it’s Diya! Today, I’m going to be sharing a recipe for peppermint hot chocolate. Earlier, when I woke up, my brother came running into my room and asked me for the special hot chocolate I had made yesterday. The truth is, it’s actually really quick and easy to make, and it’s perfect for when you want to feel warm during the winter. Even though it’s summer. Okay, let’s get to it. There are a few things you can do to enhance the flavor more, which I will be sharing, but really for this recipe, all you need are the basics.
RECIPE
Peppermint Hot Chocolate
Ready in under 10 minutes
Serves 1 person
343 estimated calories including optional steps
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk – preferably whole milk, but any kind should work.
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- ½ tablespoon white sugar
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract – you can also use a peppermint candy.
- Chocolate chips – not necessarily in that form and the chocolate itself is optional, it’s great for decoration and also for taste, but not required.
- Whipped cream – this is also optional, but I like to make my drinks look great, and this helps a lot. The amount depends on you and your preferences.
- Chocolate syrup – optional.
Preparation
- Heat up your milk. You can boil it here, or just heat it up in the microwave. I like to heat it up again close to the end of the recipe, but you can heat it all the way here.
- Add in the cocoa powder and white sugar. Mix them in. This is where the chocolate syrup comes in. You can mix some in with the cocoa powder to get an extra chocolatey taste, or you can leave it be. You could also melt some chocolate chips, and mix that in. This is where I would heat up the drink for just a little bit longer. I heated it about ¾ of the way earlier, so I just do that ¼, which will help everything mix better.
- You should add the peppermint extract now. As an alternative, you can add peppermint candy in, so you still get the flavor, even without the extract. An optional step here is to add just a little water if you prefer your hot chocolate thinner, but only about a tablespoon or two to keep the richness.
- Now all that’s left to do is make the drink sugary, but if that’s not something you’re interested in, the hot chocolate part is set. All of these next steps are optional, so you can skip as many as you want. Swirl the whipped cream like you would for a cupcake. Drizzle the chocolate syrup. Sprinkle on the chocolate chips/grated chocolate/chopped up chocolate coin (a.k.a. what I’m doing). And you’re done!
